ETS-Lindgren Provided Technical Contributions to Global Electromagnetics Conference 2022712370

ETS-Lindgren provided its technical contributions to Global Electromagnetics Conference 2022, or GlobalEM 2022, the in-person event that took place from November 13 to 17 at the St. Regis Abu Dhabi located in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Sponsored by the Summa Foundation, GlobalEM 2022 gathers internationally renowned experts in high-power electromagnetics from the scientific and engineering communities.

The research papers contributed by ETS-Lindgren were presented by Sergio Longoria, Technical Product Line Manager, Filters, in the “System Level Protection and Testing” session chaired by Dr. Armin W. Kaelin with EMProtec AG. Mr. Longoria’s papers in this session on Wednesday, November 16, include:

  • Protection of Control, Signal, and Data Points of Entry Against HEMP”
  • Problems and Best Practices in Protecting Data Lines Against HEMP

Visitors to ETS-Lindgren’s booth got the opportunity to visit their experts and learn about the latest products and services. ETS-Lindgren supports the Government, Utilities, Information Technology, and EMC Test Industries with standard and customized solutions to meet RTCA, MIL-STD, DOD, CISPR, ANSC C63®, IEC, and other industry standards. Turnkey commercial and government systems are available for testing a range of products from small cell phones to large full vehicles for automotive and airborne applications.

In addition to displaying the industry-leading Extra-High Performance Microwave Absorber, new products on display included an example of ETS-Lindgren’s Power Line Filter Series for protection against Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP), High Altitude Electromagnetic Pulse (HEMP), and Intentional Electromagnetic Interference (IEMI). These filters are available in a wide range of ampere ratings for commercial as well as government applications. Manufactured at ETS-Lindgren’s headquarters in Cedar Park, Texas, the performance of the EMP/HEMP/IEMI Power Line Filter Series has been independently tested and certified by Little Mountain Test Facility at Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, Utah, the premier survivability and reliability HEMP testing center owned by the U.S. government and managed by Boeing.

ETS-Lindgren’s Pulse Protected Power Line Filters with Red Edge™ Technology protect against damage to electronic equipment and loss of data caused by a sudden and intense EMP/HEMP and IEMI. In addition, the Red Edge EMP/HEMP Power Line Filters offer excellent multi-stage EMP/HEMP/IEMI protection while also providing TEMPEST capabilities.

“My papers at GlobalEM address an often overlooked area for critical points of entry (POE) to an EMP-protected environment – for signal, data, and control lines,” said Mr. Longoria. “While these communication lines typically carry low current, they still penetrate the RF shield; their entry needs to be protected just as robustly as the POE for each power line. If not, they can seriously degrade the RF shielding and compromise the overall level of EMP protection. I would be happy to speak with visitors in our booth at GlobalEM about our research in this area."

Key organizers of GlobalEM 2022 include Technology Innovation Institute (TII) and Directed Energy Research Center (DERC), both based in Abu Dhabi. TII is a global research center and the dedicated applied research pillar of Abu Dhabi’s Advanced Technology Research Council. By convening an intellectual community of exceptional local STEM talent, universities, research institutions, and industry partners from around the world to engage in groundbreaking proprietary and collaborative research projects, TII contributes to building the research credentials of Abu Dhabi and the UAE. DERC, through ground-breaking solutions, safeguards the world in areas as diverse as medicine, telecommunications, and infrastructure protection. By leveraging its significant capabilities in high-power electromagnetics, photonics, and acoustics, DERC provides a unique environment for world-class research and scientific discoveries. Together, these host organizations have put together an excellent conference.
