What is a multi-function generator?

A multi-function generator is an electronic instrument designed to produce various waveforms, such as surge waves, EFT/burst, and ring waves, for EMC conducted immunity testing. This equipment consists of electronic circuits and often includes a built-in Coupling Decoupling Network (CDN) and supporting software.

Multi-function generators are used in various tests of electrical and electronic devices, including: 

• Surge immunity test 
• EFT/burst immunity test
• Voltage dips, short-duration interruptions, and voltage variations immunity tests  
• Magnetic field immunity test
• Differential & common mode tests.  

They generate test signals or waveforms as per requirements of EMC testing standards, such as IEC 61000-4-4, IEC 61000-4-5, IEC 61000-4-8, IEC 61000-4-9, IEC 61000-4-11, IEC 61000-4-12, IEC 61000-4-16, and IEC/EN 61000-4-29. These generators are ideal for testing electrical and electronic devices used in various fields, including residential, industrial, medical, IT, telecom, renewable energy, transportation, and defense sectors. 

Note: Multi-function generators available in the market can also produce other waveforms, such as sine waves, triangular waves, square waves, and sawtooth waves, to meet various electrical and electronic application needs
