IEC 61000-4-39 is an EMC radiated immunity test standard that specifies immunity test requirements for electrical and electronic equipment when exposed to radiated electromagnetic energy from RF transmitters nearby. This standard applies to the frequency range of 9 kHz to 6 GHz. The first edition of this standard (IEC 61000-4-39:2017, published in 2017) is available and valid.
This standard specifies test levels, equipment for testing, test set-up, and the required test procedures for immunity tests related to RF magnetic field and radiated electromagnetic field from any source used near the electrical or electronic equipment or systems. For magnetic field immunity, the IEC 61000-4-39 document specifies two level-setting procedures (Level setting procedure 9 kHz to 150 kHz and Level setting procedure 150 kHz to 26 MHz).

The objective of the standard is to establish a common reference for evaluating the immunity requirements of electrical and electronic equipment exposed to radiated, RF electromagnetic fields from sources at close distances. The radiated immunity test ensures that the equipment possesses a sufficient level of immunity to withstand radiated electromagnetic disturbances (EMI) from RF transmitters. The IEC 61000-4-39 does not replace general immunity requirements of electrical and electronic equipment to radiated electromagnetic energy as provided in IEC 61000-4-3 and other parts of IEC 61000. IEC 61000-4-39 document is only applicable if equipment or system is exposed to disturbance by the sources nearby.
In the context of this document, the term "proximity" typically refers to a separation distance between the source and victim. Here, proximity is defined as a distance equal to or less than (<=) 200 mm for frequencies greater than 26 MHz and 500 mm for frequencies lower than 26 MHz.
The documented test methods in the IEC 61000-4-39 describe consistent methods to assess the immunity of equipment or systems against a defined phenomenon in the respective frequency range. This document is an independent test method; other test methods should not be used as alternatives for claiming compliance with this document/standard.
