This European Standard specifies the technical requirements to minimize hazards during the operation and maintenance of equipment used to store bulk materials in silos, bunkers, bins, and hoppers, including their inlet and outlet devices. It addresses safety-related technical verification during commissioning and applies to equipment used in all environments, with additional risk assessment required for severe conditions (e.g., extreme temperatures, corrosive environments). The standard excludes movable storage equipment, blow tanks, pressure vessels, stockpiles, storage for non-bulk materials, dismantling and transport procedures, silo entry procedures, storage equipment for underground mining, and noise. It also covers electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements.
