EN 55012 specifies limits and methods of measurement for the emission of electromagnetic energy from vehicles, boats, and devices equipped with internal combustion engines, which may cause interference to radio reception in the frequency range of 30 MHz to 1,000 MHz, particularly in residential environments. The standard applies to vehicles and boats propelled by internal combustion engines, electrical means, or both, and to devices with internal combustion engines. Boats are tested similarly to vehicles unless explicitly stated otherwise due to unique characteristics. This standard's sixth edition, which replaces the fifth edition from 2001 and its 2005 amendment, includes technical revisions such as the deletion of narrowband/broadband determination and general improvements in wording. It aims to protect broadcast receivers in the specified frequency range but may not provide adequate protection for new types of radio transmissions or receivers located within 10 meters of the vehicle, boat, or device.
