This European Standard specifies limits and methods for measuring disturbance emissions and immunity characteristics of aftermarket equipment (ESAs) as referenced in Automotive EMC Directive 2004/104/EC, Annex I, 3.2.9. It excludes equipment related to vehicle immunity functions as defined in Annex I, 2.1.12 of the Directive. Equipment with a primary function of radio transmission and/or reception, per ITU Radio Regulations, is also excluded. The standard covers the frequency range from 9 kHz to 400 GHz, specifying limits and methods for conducted and radiated disturbances from ESAs between 30 MHz and 1 GHz, and for immunity to conducted transients. Assessment is required only in frequency ranges where limits are defined. Emission requirements ensure that disturbances from normally operating ESAs do not exceed levels that could disrupt vehicle or external apparatus operation. Fault conditions are not considered. Testing includes only relevant disturbance phenomena, such as broadband and narrowband radiated disturbances, conducted transient disturbances, and conducted transient immunity. Accessories connected via special interfaces and not directly to the vehicle harness are generally excluded from vehicular EMC requirements.
