Overview

EN 50470-1 applies to newly manufactured watt-hour meters designed for measuring active electrical energy in residential, commercial, and light industrial settings on 50 Hz electrical networks. It covers both electromechanical and static watt-hour meters for indoor and outdoor use, specifying general requirements and type test methods. The standard encompasses meters with various features, including multi-energy and multi-function meters, focusing specifically on the active energy metering component. It classifies meters into different types based on their design, such as electromechanical or static, and by their class index, connection method, and protection class. The standard excludes meters with connection voltages exceeding 600 V, portable meters, reference meters, and does not cover rack-mounted meters' mechanical properties. It sets minimum test levels to ensure proper functioning under normal conditions, with additional levels possible for special applications as needed.
