EN 50065-1 applies to electrical equipment that uses signals in the frequency range of 3 kHz to 148.5 kHz to transmit information on low-voltage electrical systems, whether on the public electricity distribution network or within consumer premises. It specifies the frequency bands for different applications, limits for terminal output voltage, and limits for conducted and radiated disturbances, along with measurement methods. The standard does not cover modulation or coding methods, functional features (except for preventing mutual interference), environmental requirements, or tests.
It aims to limit mutual interference between transmission equipment in electrical installations and other equipment and to minimize interference with sensitive electronic devices. However, complete freedom from such interference cannot be guaranteed. Designers should consider signaling systems that conform to this standard when determining immunity for electrical equipment. Note that compliance with this standard does not imply permission to communicate with locations outside the consumer's installation or with other consumers through the public electricity distribution network unless otherwise allowed.
