Overview

This European Standard outlines the requirements for electrically powered hold-open devices, both standalone and those integrated into door closers, for swing doors. These devices can hold a door in a fixed position or allow it to swing freely, but will cause the door to close upon interruption of the electrical supply. They are recommended for use in applications requiring reliable hold-open and release of self-closing fire/smoke doors. While these devices may include smoke or fire detection elements, the performance of these elements is not covered by this standard. The EN 54 series covers requirements for resettable smoke/fire detectors.
