TÜV SÜD has recognized the CATARC Europe Testing and Certification in Erding as a qualified E-Mark testing laboratory. China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC) is the largest government-level automotive research center in China. The official presentation of the certificate took place on 1 June at CATARC Europe in Erding. In choosing TÜV SÜD for the certification of automotive lighting systems, CATARC relies on one of the world’s leading testing, inspection, and certification (TIC) companies. By embarking on their collaboration, TÜV SÜD and CATARC underline their commitment to OEMs and suppliers around the globe.
“Recognition of CATARC Europe as a qualified third-party testing laboratory of TÜV SÜD Auto Service represents a further expansion of our service portfolio, enabling us to provide car manufacturers and suppliers with efficient access to various markets”, said Stefan Merkl, Vice President of Automotive at TÜV SÜD, at the certificate award ceremony. The service portfolio includes CCC and ECE testing and the associated certifications for automotive lighting. When access to several markets can be gained with only one test, the benefits involve enormous time and cost savings – and more besides. Extensive advisory and training services round off the service offering. “This cooperation enables us to streamline the global certification process, improve customer service, and effectively leverage synergy effects”, emphasizes Merkl.
UNECE’s E-marking scheme is currently the most broadly accepted scheme for the certification of whole vehicles, systems, and components worldwide, providing automotive manufacturers and OEMs with market access in many countries around the world. ECE homologation is issued by a type approval authority following the submission of a test report prepared by a designated Technical Service such as TÜV SÜD. In China, CCC certification is mandatory for numerous automotive components and vehicles. While based in part on ECE regulations, CCC certification must be obtained separately. Automotive manufacturers and OEMs often have difficulty in determining and coordinating all tests and regulations necessary for certification.
TÜV SÜD inspected CATARC Europe’s laboratory-based on quality- and approval-relevant processes and documentation and issued official recognition of CATARC Europe as an external laboratory of TÜV SÜD Auto Service. This means that the testing procedures, technical equipment, environmental conditions, and laboratory management correspond to the UNECE-type-approval requirements for automotive lighting systems. On this basis, qualified TÜV SÜD experts can witness testing per UNECE regulations on-site at the testing facilities of CATARC Europe and then submit the relevant test results to the approval authority for ECE type approval. In other words, cooperation between CATARC and TÜV SÜD enables manufacturers to obtain both CCC and ECE certification with a single test. The partners plan to expand cooperation to increase their one-stop service offering and support automotive manufacturers and suppliers even more effectively.
