IEEE EMC Society Hosts Workshop on Advancements in Measurement Uncertainty

IEEE EMC Society Hosts Workshop on Advancements in Measurement Uncertainty712370

The IEEE EMC Society hosted a special event aimed at exploring the latest advancements in measurement uncertainty. The two-hour workshop, featuring distinguished lecturers and the President of the IEEE EMC Society, offered valuable insights into the field. The workshop took place on May 26, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 01:00 PM at the World Trade Center Bangalore. The event was jointly hosted by the Seattle Section Chapter, EMC27, the Bangalore Section Chapter, EMC27, and the Bangalore Section, SP01.

Measurement uncertainty is a critical factor in any scientific or professional measurement. To address this aspect, the workshop focused on evaluating measurement uncertainty in electromagnetic compatibility and antenna characterization applications. Renowned experts presented sophisticated data processing techniques and novel measurement methods aimed at enhancing the accuracy of electromagnetic field measurements.

The workshop touched upon various topics related to measurement uncertainty, including errors induced by the measuring environment such as reverberation chambers and anechoic chambers. Additionally, robotic positioning systems and a model-based system engineering approach were discussed to understand the contributions from various sources of uncertainties.

Attendees got the opportunity to interact with the speakers and ask questions, fostering a better understanding of the importance of addressing measurement uncertainty.

The lineup of speakers at the event comprised of:

  • John Ladbury, from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), discussed uncertainty analysis from the early days to modern usage of reverberation chambers.
  • Zhong Chen, Director of RF Engineering at ETS-Lindgren, delved into uncertainty contributions from EMC test site imperfections for measurements above 1 GHz.
  • Vignesh Rajamani, President of the IEEE EMC Society, provided insights into the latest member benefits offered by the IEEE EMC Society.
  • Dennis Lewis of Boeing, presented on the evaluation of measurement uncertainties in a multipurpose robotic antenna test system.
