The following methods are examples of some of the more common tests performed on military equipment:

  • Department of Defense Interface Standard MIL-STD-461G, “Requirements for the Control of Electromagnetic Interference Characteristics of Subsystems and Equipment (10 December 2015).” Operation and evaluation of the equipment under test were per manufacturer instructions.
  • MIL-STD-F EMC TESTING
    • Low-frequency conducted emission measurement equipment and procedures were in accordance with MIL-STD-461F, Method CE101. The limit is per figure CE101-2 from 60 Hz to 10 kHz.
    • High-frequency conducted emission measurement equipment and procedures were in accordance with MIL-STD-461F, Method CE102. The limit is per figure CE102-1 from 10 kHz to 10 MHz.
    • Low-frequency radiated emission measurement equipment and procedures were in accordance with MIL-STD-461F, Method RE101. The limit is per figure RE101-2 from 30 Hz to 100 kHz.
    • High-frequency radiated emission measurement equipment and procedures were in accordance with MIL-STD-461F, Method RE102. The limit is per figure RE102-2 from 10 kHz to 18 GHz for internal to the pressure hull.
    • Low-frequency conducted susceptibility measurement equipment and procedures were in accordance with MIL-STD-461F, Method CS101. Applied levels are per figure CS101-1 from 30 Hz (120 Hz for AC units) to 150 kHz for > 28V.
    • Transient conducted susceptibility measurement equipment and procedures were in accordance with MIL-STD-461F, Method CS106. Applied levels are per figure CS106-1.
    • High-frequency conducted susceptibility measurement equipment and procedures were in accordance with MIL-STD-461F, method CS114. Applied levels are per table VI from 4 kHz to 200 MHz for submarines internal.
    • High-frequency radiated susceptibility measurement equipment and procedures were in accordance with MIL-STD-461F, method RS103. Applied levels are per table VII from 2 MHz to 18 GHz for submarines internal.
