Eurofins’ Electrical and Electronics (E&E) business lines, part of the global network of independent Eurofins companies, commissioned two ETS-Lindgren’s AMS-8500 Antenna Measurement Systems to expand their wireless test capabilities to meet thriving customer demand in Taiwan. Model AMS-8500 is a turnkey solution for making compliant over-the-air (OTA) performance measurements. This system is ideally suited for automated measurement of antenna performance of wireless devices and devices with embedded wireless functions. Traditional passive antenna measurements may also be performed in order to obtain more generic antenna properties. Model AMS-8500 is fully configured to provide both R&D and type-approval measurements for transmit power and receiver performance of wireless devices in accordance with the CTIA OTA test plan.
Customers of Eurofins E&E Taiwan appreciate the expanded test capabilities the two AMS-8500 chambers offer, including support of 5GNR testing of a wide range of portable wireless devices. Test services for 5G are available for any form factor up to 30 cm in size. As an added convenience, Eurofins E&E Taiwan offers the AMS-8500 chambers to customers for use in their R&D efforts involving design validation, performance measurements, and production sample testing. With the addition of the AMS-8500 chambers, Eurofins E&E Taiwan is perfectly positioned to address the technological innovation inherent in Taiwan, home to many of the world’s leading companies in the wireless industry.
Model AMS-8500 is designed as a general platform for testing various wireless devices. It supports far-field measurements at a separation distance of approximately 16 ft (4.9 m). The measurement antenna allows testing from 600 MHz to 10 GHz. Extension to higher frequencies is also achievable via optional antennas. The multi-axis positioning system (MAPS) rotates the device under test (DUT) around two orthogonal axes for full spherical coverage. ETS-Lindgren’s EMQuest™ EMQ-100 Antenna Measurement Software supports data acquisition in either the great circle-cut or conical-cut test sequence to perform full spherical antenna measurements. In addition, ETS-Lindgren’s Wireless Technology Test Packages support the unique requirements of the diverse customer base of Eurofins E&E Taiwan.
Model AMS-8500 Chamber A is configured to support Cellular, LTE-SISO, LTE-A Carrier Aggregation (2DL/1UL, 3DL/1UL, 4DL/1UL), and Sub 6 GHz 5GNR measurements. Model AMS-8500 Chamber B is configured to support Cellular, LTE-SISO, LTE-A Carrier Aggregation (2DL/1UL, 3DL/1UL, 4DL/1UL), Wireless IoT, and Sub 6 GHz 5GNR measurements. With these extensive wireless device test capabilities, Eurofins E&E Taiwan can offer a wide range of 5GNR wireless test services to its customers.
“Adding the AMS-8500 chambers to Eurofins E&E Taiwan’s suite of wireless test chambers was seamless since we have worked with the engineers at Eurofins E&E for many years and share the same commitment to high-quality customer service,” said Andy Chung, Principal RF Engineer – Office Manager, with ETS-Lindgren Taiwan. “In addition, from a practical point of view, each of the AMS Series wireless test chambers in use by Eurofins E&E laboratories globally, including those at Eurofins E&E Taiwan, use ETS-Lindgren’s industry-leading EMQuest EMQ-100 software interface for 5GNR FR1 and FR2 test requirements. The software is instrumentation brand-agnostic, providing Eurofins E&E Taiwan with the flexibility to use existing instruments as well as those that may be purchased in the future.”
EMQuest EMQ-100 offers a wide range of fully parameterized test methods measuring basic antenna performance metrics, as well as testing both radiated and conducted performance of various wireless devices. Flexible in its design, EMQuest EMQ-100 can be used to analyze antennas in stand-alone applications or to test an embedded antenna system and radio module against any of the industry standard OTA radiated performance test requirements.
In addition to software, ETS-Lindgren’s turn-key system includes an RF shielded enclosure, absorber, positioner, laser alignment system, LED lights, and range calibration kits. For the 3GPP TR 38.810 measurements from 24 GHz to 42 GHz, the kits incorporate standard-gain horn antennas and antenna mounts for the multi-axis positioning systems. Quiet-zone performance validation per the procedures in 3GPP TR 38.810 at 24.25 GHz, 32 GHz, and 40 GHz assure Eurofins E&E Taiwan of a high-quality test environment.
For precise antenna pattern measurements, Model AMS-8500 includes ETS-Lindgren's EHP (Extra-High Performance) Microwave Absorber, designed for use over a wide frequency spectrum as an effective tool for the reduction of reflections from 30 MHz to 100 GHz. Mr. Chung added, “After years of providing several Antenna Measurement Systems to many Eurofins E&E locations globally, now including Eurofins E&E Taiwan, the company knows first-hand how high-quality microwave absorber in wireless device test systems contributes to accurate, repeatable measurements.”
