ETS-Lindgren Announces Tutorial Program for GlobalEM 2024712370

The SUMMA Foundation and ETS-Lindgren, co-hosts of the in-person GlobalEM 2024 Symposium, have announced the Tutorial Program topics and speakers. Complementing the GlobalEM 2024 technical program of plenary and accepted papers, the tutorials feature extended presentations on topics of interest to the high-power electromagnetics (HPEM) community. Bill Radasky, President and Managing Engineer of Metatech Corporation and Technical Program Committee (TPC) Chair, and Nicolas Mora, Ph.D., Research and Extension Directorate Advisor of the National University of Colombia and TPC Vice Chair, have created an exciting tutorial program.

“Attendees will benefit from the diverse topics and expertise of lecturers who were carefully selected not only for their stature as industry leaders, but for their unique ability to convey complex information in an educational and easy-to-understand manner,” said Janet O’Neil, ETS-Lindgren’s Customer Relations Manager and Chair of the GlobalEM 2024 Symposium Organizing Committee.

The Tutorials at GlobalEM 2024 include:

  • Status and Development of New Sources for Producing HPEM Fields — Chair and Lecturer: Edl Schamiloglu, Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA
  • Aspects of Intentional Electromagnetic Interference (IEMI)  — Chair and Lecturer: D. V. Giri, Pro-Tech, Wellesley, Massachusetts, USA
  • Resilience and Protection of Critical Infrastructure from HPEM Environments  — Chair and Lecturer: Richard Hoad, QinetiQ Ltd, Farnborough, Hampshire, United Kingdom
  • Principles and Application of Protection Devices for HPEM Purposes — Chair and Lecturer: Armin W. Kaelin, EMProtec AG, Switzerland
  • Analysis Methods Appropriate for HPEM Problems  — Co-Chairs and Lecturers: Nicolas Mora, Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Bogotá, Colombia, and Chaouki Kasmi, Directed Energy Research Center, Technology Innovation Institute, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
  • Lightning: Basics, Incidence, and Location Techniques  — Co-Chairs and Lecturers: Farhad Rachidi, EPFL, Switzerland, and Marcos Rubinstein, University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Switzerland
  • EM Background for EM Coupling Assessment on Complex Systems — Chair and Lecturer: Jean-Philippe Parmantier, ONERA/DEMR, University de Toulouse, Toulouse, France

GlobalEM 2024 will take place from July 14 to 19 in downtown Austin, Texas, at the AT&T Conference Center, adjacent to the University of Texas at Austin campus. Authors, attendees, and companions can register for the technical program, purchase tickets for the social events, and more on the attendee registration page. Those interested in purchasing a sponsorship opportunity or exhibition booth, as well as tickets for the social events, can do so on the sponsor and exhibitor registration page.

As noted above, the Technical Program will follow past editions of the GlobalEM Symposium featuring several plenary presentations of general interest to Symposium attendees. Regular submitted papers in the 17 topical areas of HPEM will return as an integral part of this year’s technical program.  Mr. Radasky will soon provide an overview of the featured papers.

The Symposium concludes on Friday, July 19, with a Technical Tour of ETS-Lindgren’s world headquarters in Cedar Park, Texas, just north of Austin.  Tour participants will see 11,000 sq m (120,000 sq ft) of manufacturing, sales, service, and administration space.  In addition, the facility features the largest outdoor open-area test site in the United States.  ETS-Lindgren’s A2LA-Accredited Calibration Laboratory (Lab Cert #1207.01) is equipped with calibrated instrumentation traceable to National Metrology Institutes (NMI), several anechoic chambers, test cells, and an 80 m x 50 m (262 ft x 164 ft) welded steel ground plane for antenna calibration.  A view of products specially designed and manufactured for protection against HPEM, high-altitude electromagnetic pulse (HEMP), and intentional electromagnetic interference (IEMI) will be included in the Technical Tour.
