ETS-Lindgren and Boeing to Hold Workshops at Event Organised by AMTA and IEEE EMC Chapter in Seattle712370

The Antenna Measurement Techniques Association (AMTA) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Seattle Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Chapter are partnering on a AMTA Regional Event coming to the Pacific Northwest from April 11 to 12, 2023. It will be held at the Hyatt Regency Lake Washington and the event will feature a technical program with renowned speakers from industry, academia, and government sectors, including Professor Yahya Rahmat-Samii of the University of California Los Angeles, who will present the four-hour tutorial “The Art, Science and Engineering of Modern Antenna Measurements and Diagnostics: From Marconi’s First Measurements to Today’s Amazing Advances.” Following the tutorial, invited speakers from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), SpaceX, and ANSYS, to name a few, will address innovative antenna technologies for mobile applications such as those found in rockets, planes, and satellites.

While Tuesday, April 11, features a full-day of invited presentations by industry experts, Wednesday morning, April 12, features a hands-on workshop with live demonstrations complementing the presentations.  Updates on IEEE, ANSC C63, and other industry-related standards will also be delivered in the workshop by prominent speakers from Boeing, ETS-Lindgren, and NIST who are active technical contributors to these standards.  These updates provide a unique opportunity for attendees to ask questions about the standards – and learn directly from those most familiar with them: why they were written, why they have certain specifications, why nuances in the standards are important, etc.

The highlight of the event is the Technical Tour planned of Boeing’s newly opened Dual Robotic Antenna Measurement System (DRAMS) in Seattle.  The tour is open to event registrants ONLY. Tour attendees will witness Boeing’s “Antenna Lab of the Future” – a test site enabling dramatically faster, more accurate antenna testing results.  The technical tour is tentatively scheduled to take place at the conclusion of the workshop on Wednesday afternoon, April 12.

“Seattle, in fact the Pacific Northwest in general, is a hub of progressive companies that are addressing the antenna challenges presented in harsh aerospace environments,” said Janet O’Neil, Vice Chair of the IEEE Seattle EMC Chapter, with ETS-Lindgren. “We’ve organized this event to provide training to those new to this technology as well as share the latest innovative solutions to these challenges for more experienced engineers.  With the high-quality speakers and unique hands-on learning opportunities in the workshops, we’re confident the event will provide great value to the attendees.  Plus, the location of the Hyatt, on the shores of Lake Washington, directly adjacent to the Boeing Renton facility with its numerous planes visible outside the hotel, will surely inspire good networking!”

A tabletop exhibition is planned for Tuesday, April 11, in parallel with the technical program. Companies interested in reserving a table can do so directly on the website. A “Happy Hour” reception with all attendees will be held in the exhibit area following the technical program on April 11. Always a highlight of past IEEE Seattle EMC Chapter events, the reception provides an informal opportunity for speakers, attendees, and exhibitors to discuss common interests in antenna, wireless, and EMC test and measurement applications.

ETS-Lindgren will participate in the tabletop exhibition on Tuesday, April 11. In addition to lending manpower to organize events such as this April 11-12 regional gathering, for longer than 75 years, ETS-Lindgren has designed and manufactured a wide range of products to support these communities. Renowned for setting the research, development, production, and service standards of the Wireless, EMC, and RF Microwave Test and Measurement Industries, ETS-Lindgren’s customers can rest assured that we will provide continued support through our six manufacturing factories and team of more than 750 employees worldwide.

Boeing and ETS-Lindgren will attend the 45th Annual Meeting and Symposium of the Antenna Measurement Techniques Association AMTA 2023 from October 8 to 13, 2023, in Seattle, Washington. This week-long symposium features four days of continuous presentations (no parallel sessions) by international speakers as well as a one-day “Boot Camp.”  A large exhibition is held in conjunction with the technical program.
