The Strategic Defense Company of Chile, Development of Technologies and Systems (DTS) has taken a training program to strengthen its knowledge and capabilities in electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) from Rohde & Schwarz, a leader in areas of defense and security, including military radio broadcasts.
DTS, a subsidiary of the National Aeronautics Company (Enaer), had announced plans to establish an electromagnetic compatibility testing laboratory as part of its ongoing initiatives. In one of the initial phases, training was carried out by Rohde & Schwarz experts which focused on the utilization of equipment for electromagnetic compatibility preconformity tests, with an emphasis on compliance with military standards.
The reasons for the development of the training were to lift the capacity to carry out these types of tests, together with having acquired an initial complete kit for conducted and radiated tests, in compliance with EMC regulations.
The training, which lasted four days at the facilities of the Chilean company, included the assembly and implementation of configuration; the use of the R&S SMA 100B microwave signal generator and the R&S SMW200A vector signal generator; in addition to the theoretical knowledge necessary to ensure compliance with the military regulations of MIL-STD-461 electromagnetic interference, together with practical exercises, using designs developed by R&D&I.
The DTS instruction included Testing, Research, Development and Innovation (R&D&I) and Maintenance staff, who completed the learning of parameters to generate test compliance reports. Currently, the company's guideline is to apply this knowledge to DTS projects on electronic cards in the development phase, with military immunity standards.
The joint trajectory between DTS and R&S began in 2020, increasing in 2022 with the interest of maintaining collaborations and continuous learning, considering that R&S has advanced knowledge of processes, equipment, and regulations in the Armed Forces market.
