What is CISPR 14?
CISPR 14 is the EMC standard for household appliances, electric tools, and similar apparatus that has two parts: CISPR 14-1 and CISPR 14-2. Let’s discuss what are CISPR 14-1 and CISPR 14-2.
What is CISPR 14-1?
CISPR 14-1 is an EMC emission standard that specifies emission limits and methods of measurement of radio frequency disturbance emitted from household appliances, electric tools, and similar apparatus, whether powered by AC or DC (including a battery). Currently, the seventh edition of this standard (CISPR 14-1:2020, published in 2020) is available and valid.
The CISPR 14-1 EMC emission measurement standard specifies the EMI emission limits (conducted & radiated), methods of measurements, test procedure, and other related details for emission measurement tests. The standard covers a frequency range of 9 kHz to 400 GHz. This standard ensures that the household appliances, electric tools, and similar apparatus that complies with this standard do not emit more than the EMI emission limit specified in this standard and do not interfere with other devices or systems in the same environment.
The standard also includes the products which incorporate radio transmit/receive functions and the equipment making use of IPT (inductive power transfer technology).
The scope of the document excluded the following:
Multifunction equipment may be required to comply with clauses in this document and other standards; details are provided in 6.5 of this document. This document's emission requirements do not apply to any deliberate transmissions from a radio transmitter, as defined by the ITU (International Telecommunication Union) including their spurious emissions. The seventh edition (CISPR 14-1:2020) supersedes the sixth edition published in the year 2016. The seventh edition features significant technical changes from the previous edition, which are listed below.

What is CISPR 14-2?
This part of CISPR 14 is an EMC immunity standard that specifies electromagnetic immunity requirements for household appliances, electric tools, and similar apparatus, whether powered by AC or DC (including a battery). Currently, the third edition of this standard (CISPR 14-2:2020, published in 2020) is available and valid.
The CISPR 14-2 EMC immunity standard specifies immunity requirements for continuous and transient electromagnetic disturbances, both conducted and radiated, test signal level, test procedure & test methods, and .other related details for the EMC immunity tests. It covers a frequency range of 0 Hz to 400 GHz. The CISPR 14-2 immunity standard ensures that the equipment can withstand electromagnetic disturbances (EMI) from nearby devices and operate properly.
The scope of this document includes the equipment which incorporate radio transmit/receive functions and also includes microwave ovens for domestic use or catering.
The scope of the CISPR 14-2:2020 document excluded the following:
The scope of the document also excluded AC single-phase equipment with a rated voltage higher than 250 V (between phase and neutral) and AC multi-phase equipment with a rated voltage higher than 480 V. The document does not consider the equipment's abnormal operation, such as simulated faults in the electric circuitry for testing purposes.
The third edition (CISPR 14-2:2020) supersedes the second edition published in 2015. The third edition features significant technical changes from the previous edition, which are listed below.
